Distinguished Service Medal GVI MiniatureThe DSM was expanded during World War Two to include the Merchant Navy and Army, the WRNS and RAF personnel serving aboard ships. Second award bars issued during the war do not carry the date of award on the reverse unlike those of World War One. As in the First World War the majority of awards issued to foreign nationals were issued un named.

The first awards of this MM were made during the Korean War although often awards announced in the name of The Queen resulted in a recipient recieving the medal with the head of King George VI

On 19th October 1919 the King announced the award of a clasp with the dates 5th Aug-22nd Nov 1914 to those that had actually served under fire between those dates
